Today I am extremely excited to share an interview with amazing Kela Smith – a Founder of Coach Kela’s Health and Life Coaching business, a professional fitness trainer, a wellness educator, a nutrition expert and the author of two books “The complete hormone puzzle cookbook” and “The puzzle method”.
I invited her here to find out how she started her health and life coaching business, how she got clients, how she’s promoting them and what we can learn about building a coaching business from her experiences.
INTRODUCTION
PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND THE BUSINESS YOU STARTED?
What They Say About Me:
With an extensive background as a professional fitness trainer, wellness educator, author of “The complete hormone puzzle cookbook” and “The puzzle method” – solving infertility, online course of the same name and quadruple certified holistic health and wellness coach. She realized her dream of creating a holistic health and wellness practice in 2018 and helps women all over the world with these issues.
My Story:
I am quadruple certified by the Health Coach Institute in health, life, and transformational coaching methods. I also have a B.S. from Middle Tennessee State University and I am a certified personal trainer through ACE (American Council on Exercise).
After years of “unexplained” infertility and deciding I didn’t want to go the medical route, I decided to take my fertility and health into my own hands through foods that were found right in my kitchen.
I started intentionally eating for fertility so I could boost my hormones naturally. I got very specific with my exercise and lifestyle habits so that I could put my body into the optimal state for conception and reverse my diagnosis and get pregnant naturally.
After about 6 months of trying this to my surprise, I got pregnant. Once I learned how to do this I not only did it once but twice and now have two beautiful baby boys ages 6 and 4.
I knew I didn’t want any women to struggle the way I did so I decided to create a method. A method with all the steps I used to get myself pregnant naturally not once but twice.
I named this method the hormone P-U-Z-Z-L-E because I feel like that is literally what you are doing is putting together a puzzle and if one piece is out of place then the picture isn’t clear.
A puzzle is an acronym and stands for Proper nutrition, understanding supplements, Zapping stress, Zzzz’s, Love and Encouragement and Exercise. This is the method I use with all of my clients and it works.
THE JOURNEY SO FAR
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR BUSINESS IDEA?
I came up with my business because of my own story. Struggling with infertility and knowing I didn’t want to go the medical route. Once I figured out how to reverse my diagnosis of “unexplained infertility” I knew I had to share this with the world and a business was born.
Through my work with women all over the world, I have fine-tuned my methodology and my business. So many women were struggling with the same issues, PCOS, endometriosis, egg health, blocked tubes, etc. and the one factor that could help with all of those issues was the right diet.
Not just “eating healthy” but intentionally eating for fertility. I tested the method on myself and had success and have been testing it with every client as well. It works!
PLEASE DESCRIBE THE PROCESS OF LAUNCHING YOUR BUSINESS.
I have launched businesses before so I knew how to do it. I knew I want to get certified so I had the credentials behind my name.
Once I became certified I started networking and getting help from people who were experts in the things I wasn’t such as branding, social media, website. Once I built my foundation and began working with clients I hired people to do these things for me.
One of the best decisions I made in my business was to hire a business strategist and coach. She has helped me see things that I didn’t see in my business and has helped me build and grow quicker than I could on my own.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT AND YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE ALONG THE WAY?
Biggest Achievement: The biggest achievement was writing two books. Seeing my hard work in a tangible item was amazing. Getting my story out and my methodology so I could help more people was more than I could have dreamed of.
Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge was not hiring a team sooner. I spent a lot of money in the beginning trying to do everything myself so I took classes, tried to build funnels and websites and run my social media through ads and I was just spinning my wheels because I wasn’t an expert in these areas so I didn’t know what I was doing.
If I would have used that money, hired professionals, and let go of some of the control I would have grown quicker and easier.
HOW DO YOU PROMOTE YOUR BUSINESS?
I have a huge bag of tricks when it comes to promoting my business. I have a VA and a team that handles my social media. I am on Facebook, Instagram and Linkedin.
I also write a weekly blog on my website, do email marketing, am very involved in my community with my local chamber of commerce and women in business groups as well as I have over 100 referral partners. I also do many consultations to attract and close my ideal clients.
WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF THE BUSINESS?
My business is growing so fast and I couldn’t be more excited. My vision for the future is to be a household name.
I want to write more books and be on all the major TV stations, good morning America and the today show sharing my gifts and knowledge with the world so I can change women’s lives and allow them to have the family they have always wanted.
