INTRODUCTION

PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND WHAT BUSINESS DID YOU START.

My name is Jennifer Dufault, I am a wife and mother to twin girls. Spending time with my family is very important, which is why I chose to become a Freelancer. This allows me to be home (or traveling) with my family and still benefit from the professional aspect of life. I enjoy working alongside and getting to know small business owners and helping with the growth of their business. It is so rewarding!
Prior to becoming a Freelancer, I worked in Human Resources and Management.

WHAT DOES YOUR TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE AND HOW DO YOU STAY PRODUCTIVE?

We have twin toddlers so my workday is scheduled around when the girls are sleeping.
6 – 7:30 am client work
7:30 – 11 am with my kids
11 am -1 pm client work
1 pm – 7:30 pm with my kids
If any other work needs to be done for my clients I will do it in the evening but, I try to keep it open for myself.
I try to work Mon-Fri and keep Saturday & Sunday open for working on my own business.

THE JOURNEY SO FAR

PLEASE DESCRIBE THE PROCESS OF LAUNCHING YOUR BUSINESS.

I saw an ad for a program called the Free Mama Movement, it was $1000 and I’m so glad I invested! The online training program walked through how to set everything up.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT AND YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE SINCE YOU STARTED YOUR BUSINESS?

The biggest challenge was turning a potential client down. I just didn’t have a good feeling about the relationship after a couple of meetings and it was really hard to do, but I handled it professionally and I’m glad that I didn’t take on the client just because I needed the extra money.

My biggest achievement is receiving positive feedback and watching my clients’ business grow! It’s so rewarding.

WHAT STRATEGY DID YOU USE TO GROW YOUR BUSINESS? AND HOW?

Setting goals and being visible on Social media.

WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF BUSINESS?

My business is doing well right now, and I plan to expand within the next few years. I’d like to hire some VA’s and I would also like to create some training programs.

RECOMMENDATIONS & FINAL THOUGHTS

PLEASE RECOMMEND ANY RESOURCES AND TOOLS THAT YOU USE TO RUN YOUR BUSINESS.

Toggl, Trello, Calendly, WordPress.org, Buffer, Hubspot and Wave Financial.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE BOOKS, BLOGS OR PODCASTS?

“The 5-second rule” by Mel Robbins

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHER WOMEN WHO WANT TO START THEIR OWN BUSINESS?

Do it now! There will never be a “perfect” time to start, there will always be something going on in your life that can be used to not move forward with starting your business.

I started a year ago and I still have so much to do to keep growing and developing. Start now and set goals and stay on track, you won’t regret it!
